Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has revealed coach Kwasi Appiah sacked Kevin-Prince Boateng from the Black Stars camp at the 2014 World Cup because he couldn’t take his disrespect anymore.

Asamoah Gyan has shed light on the incident from the 2014 World Cup, where the coach expelled Prince and Sulley Muntari from the camp ahead of Ghana's crucial group game against Portugal.

Gyan's remarks come in response to Prince's criticism, who had expressed disappointment over the lack of support when he was dismissed by the coach for standing up for his teammates.

Addressing a tweet that questioned Gyan's stance on supporting his teammate, he clarified that the team had indeed rallied behind Prince privately. However, the coach's decision stemmed from Prince's repeated instances of disrespect towards him, reaching a point where the coach felt he could no longer tolerate it.

Asamoah Gyan wrote on Twitter, “Kevin’s case happened at the training grounds between him and the coach in front of everybody.

“So that was the coach’s decision because the coach felt Kevin disrespected him several times with his choice of words. One thing Kevin didn’t know is we defended him behind the scenes several times.

“But on that day, the coach couldn’t take it anymore and reacted. That was the first time I saw Kwesi Appiah get angry and reacted.

“So Kevin’s case was the coach’s call. That’s the truth as the captain of the team.”
