Ghanaian forward Abdul Aziz Yakubu has returned to action for Rio Ave after failed move to Egyptian giants, Al Ahly.

The 24-year-old came close to joining Al Ahly on a 2.5 million Euro transfer fee but the move collapsed due to medical issues.

Yakubu, who has been in a rich vein of form this season returned to his parent club last week and featured in the sides defeat to Pacos Ferreira.

He was introduced in the second half of the game, replacing Leonardo Acevedo as his side suffered a narrow defeat to their opponent on home turf.

Nigel Thomas' 35th minute strike was enough for the visitors to secure all points at stake in the clash.

"We keep going. Alhamdulilah," wrote the forward after the game.

Yakubu has been in prolific form for the Primeira Liga outfit this season, scoring six goals and providing three assists in 15 games.

His return is a major boost for Rio Ave who are battling for survival in the Portuguese top-flight.

Yakubu led Rio Ave to promotion from the second-tier league after finishing the campaign as the club's top scorer.
