Former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah known in football circles as Tornado has paid glowing tribute to the late Christian Atsu.

Christian Atsu's body was met at the Kotoka International Airport by the Vice President, government officials, GFA, and the Twasam family on Sunday 19th February.

The Ghanaian winger had recently scored his first goal for Hatayaspor just hours before the natural disaster struck.

“When I was in Italy playing professional football outside when I return every Monday I play Monday special at Bawaleshie park. When we play there was this short guy who always give us problems. Those days all the players feature Derek Boateng, Sulley etc and I asked do we also have a Messi in Ghana," he told Dan Kwaku Yeboah as monitored by Footballghana.com

"After the game, I saw Osei Kuffour and others speaking to him so the next time I came I heard that someone saw him playing so they have taken him. Luckily when I was part of the Black Stars technical team I worked with him for sometime. He was one of the coolest guys I saw in camp you won't get anything bad to say about him when you are even angry with him he won't let you suffer then he will accept it,"

"The match I always remember he did so well in is the match against Congo when we lost in Kumasi and we traveled to go and play the return match. That time he and one Agyapong guy so atsu was on the left and Agyapong was on the right and what they did in the game that is the match Partey scored three goals. And I think that is the match I really so his talent,"

"Aside football we all know his philanthropy work he was doing I think at this particular momemt a lot of people will miss him because of the guys on the street and other people selling some of their hope was in Atsu’s hands. Today he has taken all that hope away so we all know there is a big funeral coming up and we will all be there to support,”

During his career, Atsu played 65 matches for Ghana, scoring nine goals. Two of his most famous goals came in the 2014 World Cup qualifier against Egypt and in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, quarter-finals clash against Guinea, where he scored an absolutely breathtaking goal.
