Ghana Football Association (GFA) boss, Kurt Okraku says he has no doubt Medeama SC can go all the way to win the CAF Champions League.

His comments come after the Ghana Premier League heavyweights secured a place in the group stage of the Champions League.

Speaking following the arrival of the players and the technical team at the Kotoka International Airport on Sunday, Mr Okraku praised the team for the massive achievement.

He also assured them of the country’s and the FA’s support ahead of their group stage campaign and added that he has a belief that Medeama can annex the envious trophy.

“I am here to welcome you back to Ghana and to tell you how happy we are as a country and as a football country for this amazing feat of not making yourselves proud, of not making Ghana proud but most importantly, qualifying for the next stage of the CAF Champions League.

“I remember my word to you in Cape Coast where I said to all of you that I had no doubt about the quality this team has in possession and then I had no doubt about your ability to sail through all this important heddle and through to my expectations and the expectations of the entire country, you went to Guinea to get the needed qualification that this country has been yearning for over 11 years now.

“Last season you came out as the Premier League champions and if there were some doubting Thomas’, I am sure they will be vanishing by now and everybody who competed against you during last season’s league will now accept that truly that Medeama SC deserved to be the champions.

He continued, “Once this is out of the way, we have much a bigger platform to show our quality not only from the West but also from Ghana. The group stage is a very interesting stage. A stage where your technical team led by the head coach will have to show to the rest of Africa that he is the best in Africa. It is the stage each one of you will have to show that you are the best in your individual positions and as a team and I have no doubt that we will again show.

“Hopefully and gladly enough, you will be playing in Tarkwa and once you are playing in Tarkwa, it must be a fearful den, a fearful grounds for all the competing teams in this year’s CAF Champions League and I believe the entire country will be supportive of your sacrifices, will be supportive of your efforts and eventually, the Almighty God will bless your hard work with that envious trophy. I believe so, I trust you and the Football Association will be behind you a million per cent and Ghana represented by the country will also be behind you a million per cent. Be rest assured that we will support you all the way until you touch that trophy,” he added.

Medeama SC on Saturday, September 30 secured a place in the CAF Champions League group phase following a 4-3 aggregate scoreline.

This is the first time a Ghanaian club is playing in the Champions League group stage for the first time since 2012.
