Ghana international Kwabena Owusu has opened up on a difficult spell in Spain before hitting the ground running in his career. The 24-year-old in an interview with Accra-based Original FM revealed how his proposed move to Spanish side Alcorcón hit a snag in 2016. According to him, his move to Alcorcon fell through because the manager didn’t like his style of play and had to struggle before securing a move to a different club. “In 2016, I joined Alcorcon in Spain after excelling in an agency game in Ghana. At the time I had not signed any professional contract with them. But the coach who wanted to sign me to the club left and the narrative changed. The new coach asked me to leave the club because he does not fancy my game so the agency that sent me to Spain became disgruntled and decided to bring me back to Ghana” “I didn’t take the news lightly; I was worried and didn’t know what to do but I had already done my work permit and that triggered my stay in Spain. So lucky, the man whom I was staying with decided to send me to a fourth division club, Toledo and after training with them, the team handed me a five months contract” “After three months, there were big clubs who were chasing me for my services. The likes of Girona, Leganes, Getafe and Villarreal were all interested but I decided not to rush on a move” Kwabena Owusu had stints with Toledo, Real Oviedo, Cartagena, Salamanca and Cordoba in Spain before departing for Azerbaijan. The Ghanaian international spent last season on loan at Turkish second-tier side MKE Ankaragucu, scoring 10 goals and providing 4 assists in 23 matches. He is expected to return to parent club Qarabag FK in Azerbaijan.
