Ghanaian winger Joseph Amoako has returned to Ghana after escaping prison sentence in Sweden.

The 19-year-old, who was on loan at Swedish outfit Helsingborgs IF from Asante Kotoko, was handed a two-year prison sentence after false rape accusation.

After investigations, Amoako was not found guilty and escaped prison sentenced in the European.

The winger is back to Ghana and was spotted at Kotoko’s training grounds this week.

Amoako was sentenced to prison in December 2022 by Helsingborg district court for raping 16-year-old girl.

This led to the contract termination of the Ghanaian youngster by his club, Helsingborg IF.

Upon appeals, it was discovered that the girl had lied about the incident, leading to Amoako's release.

"They just released him yesterday from the prison after the appeal was made. The case was fake; the girl was lying. Upon appeal, Amoako has been released. It was all a fake story from the girl so he is now a free man," His agent Derrick D Thompson told Footballghana.com.

Amoako joined Helsingborg in early 2022 from Kotoko and made 9 appearances.

The news has come as a great relief to Amoako, his family, and his supporters, who had been eagerly awaiting his release. The footballer is expected to return to Ghana soon, where he will resume his career in the sport.
