The head coach of the Black Stars of Ghana, Chris Hughton has indicated that the injury to defender Gideon Mensah will not affect his team heading into the game against Madagascar next weekend.

The Black Stars will face off with their counterparts from Madagascar on Sunday, June 18, in a last but one encounter of the qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Speaking to the media in a build-up to the game, Coach Chris Hughton on Tuesday said the injury to Gideon Mensah presents an opportunity for another player to step up for the national team.

“It’s an opportunity for somebody else. This is an international team. There is no absolute standout first 11. Whatever the squad is, whether 24 or 25, the players, they are all pushing to start,” Coach Chris Hughton said.

The Black Stars today trained at the Accra Sports Stadium as part of the preparations for the game against Madagascar.

The team will train every day at the stadium before traveling to Madagascar on Friday, June 16.
