Former Black Stars coach, Kwesi Appiah, has revealed that Dr Kofi Amoah tried to impose Sulley Muntari on him ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] in Egypt.
Dr Amoah, who was the President of the Normalization Committee steered Ghana’s participation in Egypt.
Having been suspended for misconduct during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Muntari wrote to apologize to the Ghana Football Association.
Ahead of the tournament, Dr Amoah in an interview with Metro TV revealed that Muntari and Kevin Prince Boateng are begging to make a return to the team.
"I have told Coach Kwasi Appiah that Sulley Muntari and Kelvin Prince Boateng have called me that they want to play for Blackstars for this AFCON," he said.
"I had a call from Sulley Muntari and the way he was talking with passion I couldn't believe it. He said if Coach Kwesi Appiah will only play him for 15 minutes, he will be grateful and accept it."
"This is a player who was clubless but now playing regularly but I think the final decision is in the hands of the coach. I have told Kwesi Appiah that Kevin Prince Boateng is a good player but the coach has the sole authority for any play of his choice ahead of the AFCON," he added.
However, Appiah, 62, speaking in an interview also shared that he was not ready to compromise on his team.
“Dr Kofi Amoah suggested that I should include Sulley Muntari in my squad for the tournament but as I have said, for me, once I have my team, nobody can change the team,” he told Joy Prime.
He also revealed that there were talks to extend his contract but Dr Amoah demanded he reduced his salary of which he refused.
“He was thinking of reducing my salary before he extend my contract but I told him, look, you can’t reduce my salary,” he added.
Ghana however exited at the Round of 16 of the tournament after losing on penalty shootouts against Tunisia.
