The Executive Chairman of Berekum Chelsea, Obed Nana Kwame Nketiah has vehemently denied the allegation that his club underpays players. According to him, such a report by some media outlets is not factual and has no basis. Speaking in an interview, Obed Nana Kwame Nketiah explained the salary structure of Berekum Chelsea, indicating that the club always makes sure players are paid well. “If you come to Chelsea we have our salary structure. For example, after we have agreed to pay a player 2000 Ghana Cedis a month, the player can decide to divide his salaries into two parts that is let us say 1,500 and 500 Cedis. We then calculate 1500 multiplied by 12 and pay him that sum upon signing the contract. “Now what is remaining to be paid to the player each month is 500 cedis. So that does not mean the salary of the said player is 500 cedis. We also pay SSNNIT contributions of the players from the coffers of the club. We at Chelsea pay our players well,” the Berekum Chelsea chairman told Ghanasportspage in an interview. He continued, “None of our players take a salary that is below the minimum wage of Ghana. For us, it is about being able to pay wages of our players and that is the most important thing.” Berekum Chelsea this season have won one game, drawn one, and lost one. The team is keen on winning games in subsequent matches to pick more points to climb the league table.
