Ghalca boss Kudjoe Fianoo has explained how this year's President's Cup will take shape.
According to Mr. Fianoo, the upcoming Super Clash between Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko will also be branded as the President's Cup. He added that all parties involved have agreed to participate after several meetings.
For some time now the President's Cup has been used as a curtain raiser for the 6th March Independence celebrations.
“Last year was a World Cup year so Ghana went to Qatar and we paused a lot of things. When we came back GFA tried to find a way to complete the league before the deadline. So when we met and we spoke about the President’s Cup, President’s Cup from last year Jubilee House arranged that anytime we will celebrate Independence Day we will play the President’s Cup to start the program," Kudjoe Fianoo told Peace FM as monitored by Footballghana.com
"When we met, this Friday was supposed to be the day for the President’s Cup you know you can't play competitive matches within 48 hours. Also we are saying the teams should be Hearts and Kotoko to play the President’s Cup and league matches will have to be postponed and when we postpone it will affect the league,"
"Thankfully Kotoko and Hearts will play on Sunday so we spoke to GFA, Jubilee House, and the Ministry that why don’t we use that match as the President’s Cup for this year. They will play the league game but after 90 minutes and it ends in a draw they will share points for the league as normal and play penalties to get the winner for the President’s Cup and the prize money,"
"So last Friday when we met GFA, Jubilee House and the two teams have all agreed. The Super Clash that will be held on Sunday will double as the President’s Cup,”
