Los Angeles FC triumphed in an enthralling 3-2 victory over Portland Timbers at BMO Stadium, with Kwadwo Opoku delivering the game-winning goal for LAFC.
Opoku, a 21-year-old Ghanaian, was the outstanding player of the match, amassing 47 touches, completing 13 of his 16 passes, winning 11 ground duels, suffering 5 fouls, and recovering the ball 4 times.
He also won a penalty that Carlos Vela converted for a goal. This marked Opoku's debut goal in the 2023 MLS season.
Giorgio Chiellini netted the opening goal for LAFC in the 24th minute, followed by Carlos Vela's goal from the spot in the 34th minute, before Opoku sealed the triumph in the 52nd minute.
Although Portland Timbers attempted a comeback, their goals from Evandro Ferreira in the 62nd minute and Cristhian Paredes in the 84th minute did not salvage a draw or a win.
This victory marks a crucial success for LAFC, who currently hold the 4th position in the MLS Western Conference rankings.
