Former Ebusua Dwarfs coach Joseph Emmanuel Sarpong has urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to hire a coach who will lead the Black Stars for the long term.
Ghana Football Association is looking for a new coach for the senior national team Black Stars after coach Otto Addo resigned on December 2nd, 2022. After beating South Korea, Ghana needed a win or draw against Uruguay to progress to the knockout stages of the tournament.
The team failed to get the needed points against the South Americans and exited the 2022 World Cup bottom of Group H.
According to Ghana FA's spokesman Henry Asante Twum, the FA has received over 60 applications for the vacant Black Stars job and no Ghanaian coach has applied for the job.
He also added that a new coach will be appointed this month ahead of upcoming qualifiers.
"A country like Ghana this is not the time to appoint a coach and sack him just in a short period. We want consistency in team building and development our players know how to play football but they don't have direction. We need someone who will have patience with them build them so that they can rub shoulders with other world class players," he told Peace FM as monitored by Footballghana.com
"We can't just appoint any coach some will come will a good CV but they cant perform. Because academic performance we don't use that in a game it is not what your paper shows but your output will determine. Most often when the white coaches come here they just come to build their CVs. When they go anywhere they get jobs because he has managed Ghana before. Now we need someone who will stay and build the team, go on tour to pick good players and build home based national team that is strong. In case we don't get the foreign born Ghanaian players we can depend on the team to play,"
"Not a coach who will come and will be given two years, the two years doesn't expire then they leave. Maybe something our football leaders did then he gets angry and leaves. I don't care if the coach is a white or African coach I want a coach who will come and work for us. I would prefer an African to take up the job but in Ghana our capacity building how many of the coaches have build their capacity,"
"So that they can be given the opportunity to handle the national team. I always say that the only person who has built his capacity to that level is Kwesi Appiah. Kwesi too came and things didn't work out. So who has built his capacity to that level that can handle a top team like the Black Stars with their egos,"
