Black Stars Coach Chris Hughton has urged his players to be more effective in front of goal following the team's slim 1-0 win over Angola in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier on Thursday.

Despite dominating the game with 11 scoring opportunities, the Black Stars were unable to convert their chances into goals, with Antoine Semenyo's late strike securing the win deep into added time.

Hughton expressed his concern about the team's inability to finish clinically in front of goal and emphasized the significance of taking chances to secure victories.

"We had 11 chances, so that's a positive. If we played 96 minutes and only had two or three chances, then that's worrying.

“The fact that we have had chances, you always know... come the next game or the next game after, you're going to put some of them away.

“That's the only thing we learned is that we need to be a little more clinical when we have those opportunities," he said.

The Black Stars have been grappling with goal-scoring difficulties for several years, and the situation has only worsened since the departure of Asamoah Gyan.

Hughton's plea for greater effectiveness in front of goal comes as the team prepares to face Angola once more on Monday, March 27, in the second leg of their AFCON qualifier.

Ghana will be hoping to clinch a win in the second leg to enhance their chances of qualifying for the 2023 AFCON tournament, which will take place in Ivory Coast.
