Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has joined the rest of the squad in Kumasi ahead of the crucial game against CAR.

The Leicester City winger replaces Joseph Paintsil in the Black Stars squad.

Paintsil, who reported to Black Stars camp for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against the Central African Republic (CAR) has returned to his parent club, KRC Genk, after further assessment of an injury he sustained before reporting to camp.

However, Issahaku, who has joined Leicester City on loan from Sporting Lisbon this summer has replaced the former Tema Youth winger.

GFA spokesman Henry Asante Twum confirmed Issahaku's late call up.

"I can confirm that Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has joined the team here in Kumasi but as to whether he will play or not, that is left for the coach to decide," he told Asempa FM as monitored by Footballghana.com.

"He was on standby and the player himself was aware of the decision of the coach. Even though Leicester City were reluctant to release him but upon further engagement with them, they agreed.

"Even if he does not play, I am sure he will get the opportunity to feature against Liberia in the friendly game on Tuesday at the Accra Sports Stadium," he added.

Ghana, who sit top of their group with nine points will host CAR at the Baba Yara Stadium later today in the final Group E game. The Black Stars need a draw or a win to qualify for the tournament that will be hosted in Ivory Coast next year.

Kick-off is scheduled at 16:00GMT.
