2023 Soccer for Dreamers U-17 tournament: Miracle Land crowned champions after narrow win in final

The 2023 Soccer for Dreamer U-17 tournament came to a successful end over the weekend with Miracle Land being crowned Champions.

The Champions clinched the trophy on Saturday, July 22, after defeating Awutu Winton Secondary School 1-0 in the final game.

The tournament was organised by Soccer for Dreams, a US-based Non-Governmental Organisation.

The tournament featured four teams including Miracle Land, Senya Wonders, Awutu Winton Secondary School, and Young Juventus.

The winners, Miracle Land started the tournament with a 1-0 win over Young Juventus to make it to the finals.

In the ultimate battle for the trophy, both Miracle Land and Awutu Winton Secondary School put up a strong performance.

Thanks to a solitary strike from Emmanuel Mensah in the first half, Miracle Land emerged victorious to clinch the trophy.

At the end of the Soccer for Dreamers U17 tournament, Emmanuel Effah of Winton Secondary School was adjudged the best player whiles Michael Darko bagged the Goal King award with his two goals.

The Best Goalkeeper award went to Wilberforce Mensah of Miracle Land.

Speaking to GNA Sports in an interview, Madam Sylvia Akwaboah, President of Soccer for Dreamers explained that the tournament was organised to provide a platform for young Ghanaian players to showcase their talent to the world.

She noted that there was a need to give young footballers a better future to aid them achieve success in life.

To this end, an online learning platform has been created.

"We have invested in an online learning platform, you can learn how to get ready for an interview, how to put CV's together, Customer Service skills, and how to train you to be a good employee to give footballers life even after football which is the Ubuntu online academy platform," Madam Sylvia Akwaboah said.

As part of efforts to help in developing and promoting football in the country, Soccer for Dreamers donated boots, balls, gloves, shin guards, bags, cash prizes, and other equipment to the teams that participated in the U17 tournament.

A set of football gear was also donated to Gomoa Sports for Change, an NGO using sports to get children out of the street.

Stephen Nyarko, Coach of Gomoa Sports for Change thanked Soccer for Dreamers for coming onboard to help the organization and the community as a whole.

"It will help us go a long way because as an NGO we do not have so many gears to support the children to work so we will use these things to help the children gain more experience through sports," he said while expressing appreciation to Soccer for Dreamers.
