EUGENE (USA, Aug 8): Fresh Commonwealth champion Isaac Beacroft of Australia clocked a new World U20 record of 18:40.37 when winning the 5000m race walk in Saturday morning session of the World Athletics U20 Championships, ahead of China’s Pu Huajia (18:43.70 U20AR) and Nicolo Vidal of Italy (18:56.19 PB).

Italy’s Serena Di Fabio won the women’s race in 20:57.57 CR over Chloe Le Roch of France (21:17.92 U20NR) and China’s Yang Yutong (21:31.99 PB). Romania’s Daria Vrinceanu won the triple jump qualification with 13.60 (1.3).

Fastest in the relay heats were USA 3:32.56 and 3:04.55 U20WL in the 4x400m, in the 4x100m USA 38.87 and Australia 43.44 U20AR, while USA women (43.67) were eliminated.

Sweden’s Liam Belo Da Silva (5905 points) leads the decathlon after 7 disciplines ahead of Mael-Bephassou Lannurien of France (5815).
