Central Africa Republic coach could be sanctioned by the Confederations of African Football (CAF) following a distasteful remarks about referee, who handled their game against Ghana.

In a post-match press conference, Savoy directed his frustration towards Kenyan referee Peter Kameru and implied that Ghana had benefited from favourable officiating.

Ghana secured a 2-1 victory over Central African Republic, which ensured their qualification for the tournament in Ivory Coast, alongside Angola.

"I'm very proud of my players. We played better than Ghana and didn't deserve to lose. I think we should have finish this game with a 1-1 draw, you qualify but we don't lose. I think the second goal was offside clearly, we know the referee is your winner. We knew the referee would help you guys and he did it" he said.

The comment has sparked controversy on the continent and could be hauled before CAF for sanction.

The visitors needed a win at all cost to guarantee a place at the AFCON tournament to be staged in Ivory Coast in January 2024 but the West African powerhouse showed resilience to overcome their opponent to qualify.

Raoul Savoy’s men took the lead in the first half but the most-talked about player in the country, Mohammed Kudus slotted home a free-kick to level pegging as the first half ended 1-1.

Ghana coach Chris Hughton made some tactical changes which yielded results for the team in the second half.

The introduction of Ernest Nuamah, Antoine Semenyo, Gideon Mensah and Baba Iddrisu did the magic as Ghana secured a 2-1 win at the Baba Yara Stadium on Thursday to qualify for Afcon tournament to be staged in Ivory Coast early next year.

Lyon forward Ernest Nuamah scored the winning to help Ghana finish top of Group E to qualify.
