Fans of former Newcastle United player Christian Atsu have contributed hugely to a school building project he started in Ghana.

In order to help orphans, Atsu had begun the effort to pay for the construction of a school in the Ghanaian community of Senya Beraku.

The hopes of the weak and potential beneficiaries would diminish as a result of Atsu's premature death. But, supporters of his old team Newcastle United decided to finish the initiative and raised more than £3,000 in less than 48 hours.

The school building project is being spearheaded by Arms Around the World, a charity organisation on behalf of the late footballer.

They have set a target of £40,000 to complete the project. Atsu played for Newcastle from Chelsea in 2016 and played over 120 matches for the Magpies.

Aside from the school building project, Atsu has also paid for the release of prisoners who were remanded over petty crimes in the past.

He was known for his charitable works and his death was a great loss not only to his family but to the community and fans alike.

The fans' efforts to complete the school building project is a great testament to the impact Atsu had on the lives of many people, both on and off the field.
