FIFA President, Gianni Infantino has extended his consolation and that of the association to the families of the victims of the stadium disaster in Indonesia.

In a statement, the president of the world football governing body has stressed that the tragedy is beyond comprehension.

"This is a dark day for all involved in football and a tragedy beyond comprehension.

"I extend my deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims who lost their lives following this tragic incident,” Gianni Infantino has said in a statement.

The FIFA president added, "Together with Fifa and the global football community, all our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, those who have been injured, together with the people of the Republic of Indonesia, the Asian Football Confederation, the Indonesian Football Association, and the Indonesian Football League, at this difficult time."

The stadium disaster occurred on Saturday after Arema FC's loss to rivals Persebaya Surabaya on Saturday in East Java.

A clash between fans reportedly saw the Police use tear gas in an attempt to disperse the supporters.

In the rush to escape the stadium, a stampede occurred resulting in the death of at least 150 people.

Some 180 people also sustained various degrees of injuries and had to be rushed to the hospital.

The entire world has mourned the incident in the last 24 hours.
