Development centered on optimizing the track spike across several key areas:


  • Targeting Distance Range: They designed the Dragonfly 2 to cover a versatile range for long-distance runners, specifically targeting events from 800m up to 10,000m.


  • Maximizing Legal Limits and Cushioning: The engineering team retuned the platform to maximize the allowable stack-height ceiling (setting the heel at approximately 19.8 mm) to provide underfoot protection and leg-saving cushion.


  • Turn Stability: They incorporated a slightly wider midfoot and forefoot platform, along with a convex medial structure, to give runners greater confidence and stability while rounding track curves at high speeds.


  • Weight Reduction: The team streamlined the spike layout from a 6-pin to a 4-pin configuration and used updated soft yarns in the engineered mesh upper—retaining the iconic Matumbo heel hole—to cut weight without compromising performance.
