Second title for Adola (2:02:50) after 5 years


BERLIN (GER, Sep 27): 35-year-old Guye Adola won his second Berlin Marathon title in a 2:02:50 PB, improved after 9 years (61:02/61:48), leading an Ethiopian 1-2 ahead of Gemechu Dida (2:03:19 PB) with Tanzania’s Gabriel Geay (2:03:59).

In total, Ethiopians filled seven of the top eight places, with Getaneh Molla (2:04:55) and Tokyo 10,000m Olympic champion Selemon Barega (2:04:58 PB) also breaking 2:05 in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Japan’s Yuhei Urano was the leading non-African finisher in ninth with a 2:06:09 PB, and Haftom Welday was the best German finisher in 16th with 2:08:25.

The top-24 finishers all broke the 2:10 barrier.
