Former Ghana international, Yaw Preko has backed Black Stars, Chris Hughton.

The former Premier League manager earlier this year signed a 21-month deal and after five games played, the senior national team has recorded three wins and two draws.

Hughton has come under pressure in recent times until the team's wins against Central African Republic (CAR) in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers last week at the Baba Yara Stadium.

On Tuesday, Hughton again led the team to record a win against Liberia in an international friendly game at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Preko, speaking to Graphic Sports says the team is yet to gel under Chris Hughton and must be given enough time to work.

“I think we still haven’t gelled well, we had a coach who was a technical director before becoming a coach. People might say he was part of the team at the World Cup but it’s not the same," the former Great Olympics coach said.

“As the technical director, you are not the head coach, you are not in control of certain things but when you become the head coach you have to implement your own ideas and everything," the former Medeama SC gaffer added.

The Black Stars, who have qualified for the 2023 AFCON will take on USA and Mexico in an international friendly game in the next international break.
