Molly Caudery’s season is over

A season that had started brightly and promised so much is already over for Molly Caudery.

Earlier this month, she won the Rome Diamond League with 4.80, commenting: “I am very happy with today. I had a short approach with 10 steps. I had a great indoor season, and sometimes you need to take a deep breath; it is a journey. I think it was a smart move to stop at 4.80 because I just came back from Rabat, there was a bit of a risk, and I wanted to take it easy, not to pressure my body.”

The great indoor season she referred to included retaining her World Indoor title with 4.85. Her 2026 sheet lists six competitions and 5 wins. Her future plans included more Diamond Leagues, a Commonwealth Games, and a European Championship.

Then, in mid-June, she issued a statement that she had been ruled out for the rest of the season after emergency spinal surgery, microdiscectomy – a procedure to remove part of a spinal disc – after experiencing a “flare-up”.

She wrote on Instagram: “Emergency spinal surgery (microdisectomy) wasn’t on my 2026 bingo card, and just like that, my season is over. Absolutely heartbroken to even be writing this, missing out on yet another year of major champs & home games

for context I had a back flare up last week that got worse quickly and immediate surgical intervention was needed to prevent any further damage.

“The surgery was a success & my road to recovery starts today!! Really thought 2026 was going to be my year after heartbreak in Paris and Tokyo and everything in between, but just wanted to add another chapter in the autobiography before the comeback lol.”
