Review meeting on Asian Games performance.
From all that we read in reports on the review meeting, the minister spoke to the top star federations like badminton and athletics, citing that all facilities and money were provided as requested by the federation; yet, for example, in badminton, with top stars drawing top funds like Sindhu, Lakshya, Reddy, and Shetty, we could return with only one bronze medal from the team event.
This poor performance continued recently, with all these stars eliminated in the first round at the Denmark Open. The ministry must realize it is time to shift its reliance to a BOTTOMS scheme, investing in the world’s best coaches at the grassroots of each sport. Take, for example, hockey: we may not need a Fulton for the national team, but 50 Fultons at the grassroots level, and we’ll see the results.
In sport, throwing money in doesn’t bring immediate results. It is a criminal waste and has only encouraged doping, for example, where india has topped the world’s charts. Time to tap your BOTTOM rather than your backs, in a lighter vein.
All the best
