The General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association, Prosper Harrison Addo has debunked suggestions the association has issues with Black Stars forward Felix Afena-Gyan.

The Cremonese attacker declined a call-up to represent the Black Meteors in the crucial two-leg U23 AFCON qualifier against Algeria earlier this year.

Reports suggested that 20-year-old's decision stemmed from his dissatisfaction with the treatment he received from the GFA after being overlooked for the World Cup squad.

However, in an interview with Happy FM, Addo provided further clarification on the matter, stating that the GFA does not have any problems with Afena-Gyan.

"The FA as a body has no issue with Afena-Gyan. He is young and needs room for himself, sometimes constant criticisms reinforce his disappointments.

"So we have to give him room to come to terms and a good place. The GFA has not stated anywhere that the player will not receive a call-up and will disassociate itself from such reports.

“The FA will however leave that to the coach to decide if he needs Afena-Gyan and then the FA will make sure we do what is necessary to get the player. He is still a national asset and will be key for the team,” he added.
