Veteran football administrator Abbey Pobi has reacted to Ghana Football Association's press release on defamatory statements against GFA and the Black Stars brand
The FA in their press release stated that " The GFA has since kept an open mind and continue to listen and receive comments, suggestions, and ideas from well-meaning Ghanaians both home and abroad for the improvement of the team,"
"Unfortunately, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has noticed that a few persons are deliberately maligning and defaming the GFA and the Black Stars brand in an attempt to manufacture a non-existent scandal about the team,"
"While the Association will continue to encourage feedback and opinions (devoid of insults, personal attacks, and brand devaluation), the destruction of the brand from deliberate lies, misinformation and defamatory comments must be curbed, as the Black Stars remains a global brand that unites all Ghanaians,"
"The Ghana Football Association has therefore instructed its lawyers to institute legal action against persons who defame the Association, its officials, products and destroy the Black Stars brand as well as the media platforms used to do same,"
According to Abbey Pobi stakeholders should be able to tell the Ghana FA the truth and not feel threatened because the Black Stars is funded by taxpayers.
"They should not threaten anyone in Ghana the first GFA chairman was Richard Acquaye Ghana football was started in 57/58 there were people managing Ghana football. Chairmen..chairmen have come and gone Nana Brew Butler, Nyamekye etc it is an association 1975 I was an active member I am a stakeholder so I have to share my opinion," he said on Peace FM as monitored by footballghana.com
"When we were going to the world cup you and I taxpayers we manage and fund the Black Stars so we have the right to talk about it. This is also patriotism we have returned from the world cup I have Googled and check FIFA says that a team will get a minimum of 13 million dollars. And I Jonathan Abbey Pobi is saying we should render accounts to the public. FIFA in 2006 paid an appearance fee of 6 million dollars to Ghana Football Association per Brazil 2014 report,"
"2010 FIFA paid an appearance fee, 2014 FIFA paid appearance fee we were told Qatar FIFA paid 9 million dollars as an appearance fee. I as a stakeholder i am asking that the money paid who decided we should give each player 100,000 dollars. So I should not ask this? Have I defamed anyone? I will plead we must be bold. Look at Morocco they are talking about development not taking people to court. What they have said nobody is saying defame someone but if the problem stinks it stinks and we all have to talk about it,"
